Delivering Extended Cellular Coverage and Capacity Using High-Altitude Platforms

Interest in delivering cellular communication using a high-altitude platform (HAP) is increasing partly due to its wide coverage capability. In this paper, we formulate analytical expressions for estimating the area of HAP beam footprint, average per-user capacity per cell, spectral efficiency (SE) and (ASE), which are relevant radio network planning, especially within context extended contiguous capacity. To understand practical implications, propose an enhanced validated recursive antenna beam-pointing algorithm, forms cells over service while considering broadening degree overlap between neighbouring beams. The performance structure resulting from algorithm compared with other alternative schemes carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) carrier-to-interference-plus-noise (CINR). Results show that there steep reduction ASE at edge coverage. achievable limited by minimum acceptable edge, among factors. addition, results highlight efficient management can be achieved significantly improves user CNR, CINR, benchmark schemes.
